Historically people tend to wear their hair shorter as they get older. Women that have gone through a medical procedure that has led to hair loss tend to shy away from long hair or even bobs because they worry that their tresses won’t grow back very quickly. In these situations a lot of women buy a wig.

Most of the time women seem to want to try to match what their hair looked like before the medical issue, in style and especially color. However, some take the opportunity to change style’s, and short boy cuts are usually the next step.

When choosing a short style, keep in mind your face shape. Women with a round face have a harder time pulling off a boy cut, and are much more suited for a chin length style, probably with soft curls. Square face shapes are similar to round but a square face shape has an angular jaw line. This allows for a chin length style to look good in straight or curly options. An asymmetrical bob would also look good on these face shapes as well. All wigs can be cut for a custom style, just check with your stylist first to make sure they are willing to work on a wig.

If you have a long or an oval face you’re in luck, because your face shape isn’t well suited for long hair anyway. These shapes are the most versatile and easy to work with as well. A boy cut would be ideal. Keep in mind that there are still rules to follow though. Go for a modern look and stay away from anything that looks dated. It’s also a good idea to pick a wig that is natural looking and doesn’t take long to style. These wigs are usually more expensive, but come with important features like a lace front, monofilament top, or a hand tied top. These features are great because they are more comfortable and fit great.

Lots of celebrity hairstylists believe that when a client comes in with their own naturally curly hair clients should be concerned about adopting a boy cut style because unless cut properly by someone who understands short styles, natural curls and kinks will swell frizz up and just look like a bad haircut. Not so with a wig. Usually wigs can be pulled out of the box, combed through, put on, and look fantastic.
